Spiritual Breathing
dlplife November 29th, 2007
Breathing is a matter of getting the bad air out and the good air in. Spiritual breathing is learning to exhale, to confess our sins, and to enhale, to receive the forgiveness of God. God wrote in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Make it a regular, daily habit of confessing your sins to God, be specific and sincere. Ask God to help you remember what you need to confess. Don’t make excuses, don’t be vague, mention the time, place, and sin. Remember that Jesus has paid for your sins on the cross. Thank God for forgiving you and cleansing you from sin. Trust that the matter has been dealt with and enjoy the restored relationship you have with God.
What should you confess? Anything you have not yet confessed to God.
What should you not confess? Anything you have already confessed to God.
Sometimes a habitual sin points to a deeper problem within our heart. Ask God to search you out, to show you your deeper thoughts and spiritual needs.
Sometimes we need to apologize and ask forgiveness from people as well. Start with God but don’t end there, if your offense has hurt someone else.
